before a date night out. first night out (sans the boys) in months...well more like over a year. this park is minutes from our house and has great lighting, amazing colors and is great for people watching and great views of downtown denver in the distance.

is riley the cutest dog or what? she cracks me up how she gets in between your legs or on your body to get comfy. today in particular she found my bottom to be particularly cushy. i seem to store excess fat from the winter there!

more from my botanic gardens escapade this weekend. i am starting to like some of these more and more as i look at them. sure wish i had the class to actually learn something about taking macro floral pics. but it was fun playing around.

i miss you already sydney raye...thanks for sharing your spirit with me during your visit to colorado. you are one special little girl. i've fallen in love with you in 5 short days.

another beautiful day in colorado and off to another park. have i mentioned just how lucky we are to live here?
i dragged the boys in our radio flyer wagon (with two cute umbrellas to keep them shaded) around the 1.4 mile loop at clement park. then as a reward for their good behavior we went up the hill to the playground. everyone was happy--especially me!
every day here is a gift to me.

thanks for planning and executing a lovely trip for us all. you are an artist true in so many things (especially planning and packing). thanks for your hard work and patience. and for listening to the 'wiggles' cd over and over and over.

went to boulder for a picnic with tamara and some friends. afterward we headed to boulder's pearl street mall for some coffee and ice cream for the kids. out of 150 picture taken-this one is my absolute favorite. i love the blur of the background and the busy pedestrian mall on a beautiful colorado day. i love the telling connection between tam and her daughter. these two aren't too tough to photograph, they are almost always happy and smiling!

my little guy 'bonked his bean' (graff lingo for "hit his head") this morning awfully hard on the toybox. he got over it very quickly but i was thinking that the black and blue spot on his forehead might not look too well for his birthday on sunday. so--i raced to dress him in his birthday portrait outfit and urged him to pose for me. it was a struggle for us both but i think i got a couple of cute ones.

happy early birthday my love. sorry-but momma is probably going to dress you up for a few years to come--until you are able to put up a fight!

stayed up last night and watched "into the wild" a wonderful, reflective and just beautiful movie. i am tired today. so tired.

at the park today--all of us! we had a nice time playing in the snow.

chuck taylors suit my older son so well. he looks so cool in them (these are his second pair-his feet are growing so fast!) of course, he's got red socks on too. always red socks even when they don't match everything else he's wearing. the boy loves red.

a photo taken with the camera at arm's length. i love that 50mm 1.4 lens. (the boys are both safely secured in swings behind us...just in case you were wondering MOM!)

we took a ride to the top of mt. evans (north america's highest auto road elevation 14260) to show my friend some gorgeous views. it was fun to see her reaction to the mountains.
it's hard to believe that it took less than two hours from our garage the top of this mountain (including two pitt stops along the way).

playing around with the lovely bathroom light and my d-70 while the d-200 is getting cleaned. i love the remote it has and miss that option on the new camera.
thoughts on this photo? honest thoughts! i am struggling with image editing and after taking a class on sunday--i feel like i am even more lost. i tend to cross the image editing lines at times and need some serious, honest direction.

the warm sun slips through our huge bedroom window, the dog is curled against my legs (tired from our long morning walk and damp from her recent bath). i feel like drifing off into a sweet afternoon nap. then the baby wakes up.

it's been one of those upside down and you-need-a-new-perspective-days today.
'nuff said.

i know-i'm sorta obsessed with shots of my son's shoes. but this picture really speaks to me. it was taken a few days ago but i just wanted to post it because i love it so much.

wanna feel old? put your wrinkly old hands next to a 4 year old's skin. yikes. i've always had 'workin' hands' but in the past few years they've gotten progressively worse. i am struggling with aging. it is part of the reason for this project. as i change i find it hard to recognize myself sometimes: my style, my body, my wrinkles etc etc.

for years i've walked this trail near our home. it is very special to me. last night the skies were so beautiful. for the first time in years i finally brought my camera and my newly fixed tripod and took some shots. i did get a few strange glares from those at the neighboring school's athletic field but oh well. it was tough to carry all that gear for the three mile walk. the field along the trail usually has wild sunflowers and random wildflowers growing along it. i'm already looking forward to seeing those soon. this is my special place to be alone and think.
John expressed an interest in seeing more "of where I live"--a great suggestion of which I am more than happy to oblige. Here are just a few pictures of places within a few hours of our home:

i can't bring myself to wear makeup other than lip gloss (it's so darn dry here in colorado that i either have it or chap stick on at all times) even though i need it. i feel like i am trying too hard when i do wear it since becoming a stay at home mom. it's the same with jewelry.

took this shot with my old trusty d 70 and the even trustier (is that a word?) remote with my 50mm 1.4 lens. i must say that i do like the d 200 but i loved that d 70. such a great camera. we traveled lots of miles together

look at this little angel who, to all of the onlookers who had the good fortune of catching this performance in Boulder yesterday, will forever be known as the "Didgeridoo Dancer." Unless of course, they caught her at the piano man, the bluegrass band, or the Peruvian musicians. We just call her Sydney Raye.

Hi,
I'm MB--a stay-at-home-mom to two lovely boys who is trying her hand (and eye) at photography. I don't want to miss a second of their lives so I got a Nikon D-200 and am learning from it still. What an amazing camera. I am trying to learn about myself (specifically the concept of 'self' image and all of the baggage associated with the term), photography and technique, lighting, editing--all of it. I have a LONG way to go but I enjoy the process, the lessons and the community here at Smug Mug so very much. Thanks to all who took the time to take a look at this "photo journal" project!
